RK Nagar, starring Vaibhav in the lead, will release on April 12. Despite the name and a release date that coincides with the election dates, the makers vehemently refuse the notion that movie is political in nature.

The trailer starts off with archived footage of politicians making speeches. This is juxtaposed with vox populi. Having grabbed the bull by its horns, the trailer employs a voice-over that says “Don’t be misled by the title, for this is not a political movie but a strictly commercial one”. This would not be a tall claim considering the romance, songs and action that ensue. Slightly political dialogues pop up in between.
While Inigo Prabhakaran and Sampath Raj appear in pivotal roles in the film, Sana Althaf and Anjana Kirti feature as the female leads.
RK Nagar has been written and directed by Saravana Ranjan, who had previously made Vadacurry. Ranjan has said that the movie would feature four narratives and compared the script with that of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s 2017 film Maanagaram.

RK Nagar also marks director Venkat Prabhu’s foray into movie production. His brother and actor Premgi Amaran has composed the music for the movie. Gangai Amaren, Vairamuthu, Karpaga Rajan and Parthi Bhasker have written the lyrics for the songs.
Production of the film kickstarted in June 2017 and the movie has been shot across Chennai and Puducherry.
RK Nagar is the third film with political flavour to release in the recent past. LKG, featuring RJ Balaji, revolved around the journey of Lalgudi Karuppiah Gandhi from a small-time politician to becoming a leader. The movie was a superhit.
AR Murugadoss’ Sarkar, featuring Vijay, released during Deepavali last year, and touched upon the issue of electoral fraud. Despite the movie running into multiple controversies, it went on to become a huge success.
