Varalaxmi Learns Karakattam for Bala’s Next

Recommended

Varalaxmi is training quite hard for her role in director Bala’s latest movie, tentatively titled Tharai Thappattai. While it had earlier emerged that the actress was trying to shed a few pounds to fit the profile of a danseuse, Silverscreen has now learnt that she is taking lessons in Karakam as well. Confirming the news to us, Varalaxmi explained that she is being trained in the folk dance form by a tutor. “Karakattam is not an easy folk art to master. So, I am undergoing rigorous training. Besides learning, I am also researching about Karakam to understand the performers’ lifestyle and body language,” she said, adding, “the work on the film will start in a fortnight and the shooting will be predominantly in Tanjore.”

But it is not just Varalaxmi who is doing homework. Sasikumar, the movie’s male lead, who will be donning the role of a Nadaswaram player, has been asked to shave his trademark beard and sport a thin moustache. The plot of the flick, if it isn’t obvious already, will revolve around Karakattam. Ilaiyaraaja composes music for Tharai Thappattai; which is likely to be completed around the end of this year.
