Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar will launch a campaign to promote awareness about the lack of safety for women in India. The campaign has been named ‘Save Shakti’ and is expected to be launched on March 8 – International Women’s Day.
According to a report in India Today: “Save Shakti is a two point agenda. We need extra Mahila courts at every taluk level and second point is that it needs to come up in time period of 6 months.”

“Our world is governed by fear and we can’t change the world overnight, but no woman should be subjected to cruelty,” Varalaxmi added.
Through this campaign, the actress intends to set up more Mahila courts. This means that victims of sexual assault can skip protracted legal campaigns and get their cases fast-tracked.
Varalaxmi’s decision to start this campaign comes just weeks after the kidnapping and alleged sexual assault of a popular Malayalam actress. Shortly after this incident, Varalaxmi revealed her own experience with the ‘casting couch’.
