Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has released a statement on behalf of actor Vijay saying that he has not spoken ill of any actor at any time, has not authorised any person to do so, and comments about his opinion on others’ success are not to be believed.
This statement comes after an excerpt from an interview with his long time PRO and producer PT Selvakumar went viral. The producer had said that Vijay has become No 1, and Rajinikanth and Ajith only come after him.
Selvakumar said, “Rajini was the superstar once, he could not be beaten. But today, Vijay’s movies like Sarkar and Mersal are top. Some might feel upset about this, but it’s true that 2.0‘s collections have not crossed Sarkar’s. People have been fooled to believe that 2.0 is doing better.”
He further said that he had authentic information from theatres across the State. Inflated numbers about 2.0‘s box office success are being circulated to protect Rajinikanth’s image. And the Pongal battle between Viswasam and Petta will decide who is a bigger star among Ajith and Rajinikanth.
Selvakumar was the PRO of Vijay for years, before he was replaced by Riaz K Ahmed in 2015. Selvakumar was also the producer of films like Puli in 2015 and Pokkiri Raja in 2016. He has directed a film called Onbadhule Guru.

His statement about Vijay’s films faring better than that of Rajini and Ajith created a controversy among Rajini and Ajith fans. Following this, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam clarified that Selvakumar is currently not associated with Vijay, and he does not hold a post in Vijay Makkal Iyakkam either. “Many are voicing their own opinions as if they were Vijay’s. These are not Vijay’s opinions, and he has not spoken ill or degraded his co-actors or the general public. He has not given anyone the authority to speak so either. Please don’t believe these statements,” the note read.
