Vijay Sethupathi’s new film with Shruti Haasan is titled Laabam. The film, directed by award-winning director SP Jananathan, got underway with a pooja function held at Rajapalayam.
Earlier this month, Silverscreen reported about the actress’ participation in the project with her official spokesperson saying “Talks regarding the project are currently underway. There has not been any confirmation as of now. More details could be expected in the coming days.”
Now, an official statement from the makers of the movie has confirmed her participation. Apart from being her first Tamil film since 2017’s Singam 3, the movie would mark the actress’ first collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi. Incidentally, Vijay Sethupathi had appeared on her show Hello Sago last year.
Apart from acting in the film, Vijay Sethupathi will also serve as a co-producer on the project. His production company, Vijay Sethupathi Films, has produced movies like Orange Mittai, Junga and Merkku Thodarchi Malai in the past.
7 C S Entertainment, the other production company financing the project, is known for movies like Naalu Policeum Nalla Irundha Oorum and Oru Nalla Naal Paarthu Solren. Vijay Sethupathi had acted in the latter.
Laabam is touted to be an action entertainer and would feature Jagapathi Babu in a prominent role. The movie also marks the second collaboration between Sethupathi and SP Jananathan after the 2015 film Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai.

The technical crew of the film comprises of cinematographer Ramji, best known for his work in films like Paruthi Veeran, Thani Oruvan and Irandam Ulagam. D Imman composes the music for the movie. More details regarding the film are awaited.
Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi, who was last seen in Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Super Deluxe, is currently gearing up for the release of Sindhubaadh. He also dubbed for Ironman in the Tamil version of Avengers: Endgame.
Shruti Haasan has a yet-to-be-titled Hindi film, directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, that is currently in the production stage. She will also be seen in Tamil-Telugu-Hindi multilingual Sabash Naidu directed by T.K. Rajeev Kumar.
