When news broke of Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan teaming up for romantic drama 96, there was a lot of excitement. For one, the pairing was unusual. Secondly, Vijay Sethupathi has showed an amazing ability to pick scripts that pique people’s interest. The teaser of 96 that was released on Thursday proved the excitement was worth it.
The over-a-minute-long teaser gives us a feel of the film, without revealing much. The lead actors share moments of joy and despair in the teaser. Apart from the feel-good visuals, the melodious promo song holds one’s interest.
The film marks the directorial debut of C. Prem Kumar, who had earlier worked as cinematographer in Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, the sleeper hit known for Vijay Sethupathi’s repetitive ‘medula oblongata’ dialogue.
The music of 96 has been composed by Govind Menon of Kerala-based band Thaikkudam Bridge fame; he also composed for the recently-released Asuravadham. Nandagopal of Madras Enterprises has produced the film.
Reports suggest the makers are planning to release the film in Telugu too. 96 is being billed as a love story told from the perspective of a man at three different stages in his life. According to a report, the story will be told from the perspective of the character played by Vijay Sethupathi at the ages of 16, 36 and 96!
The first-look poster of 96 was revealed by Trisha on her Twitter handle on Thursday. She wrote saying “#96 #firstlook Can’t wait for you guys to see the teaser ”

On the work front, Vijay Sethupathi has his hands full. While he is awaiting the release of the gangster-comedy ‘Junga’, directed by Gokul, he will also be seen in ManiRatnam’s multi-starrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.
That aside, Vijay Sethupathi, who will make his Telugu debut with the period-drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, is also expected to start filming with Rajinikanth for Karthik Subbaraj’s next.
Then, there’s his third collaboration with Arun Kumar, the director of Pannaiyaarum Padminiyum and Sethupathi; the crew of the untitled film, also starring Anjali, is to shortly fly to Thailand to shoot some portions.
