Speaking to Silverscreen, the director said, “This is false news, there have been no talks and we have not approached Vijay Sethupathi for the film. We’re finishing the final schedule currently, it is a long one. We cannot reveal more about Asuran at this point.”

Vetrimaaran confirmed that Balaji Sakthivel is making his acting debut with the film. Reports have speculated that the director, best known for films like Kadhal, Vazhakku En 18/9, will be seen as the antagonist in Asuran. His character is yet to be confirmed.

The shooting for Asuran is taking place in and around Kovilpatti in Tirunelveli district. The final 40 day schedule began on April 29, and Dhanush shared a poster on Twitter announcing the news.

Asuran is written by Vetrimaaran, and the story is based on Tamil writer Poomani’s novel Vekkai which is about a son avenging his father’s death. Dhanush plays a dual role as the father and son in the film. Manju Warrier stars as the female lead, and she is making her Tamil debut. Actors Ken Karunas, Subramania Siva, Pasupathi, Aadukalam Naren, Pawan have important roles.

Following speculations around the composer for the film, in January it was announced that GV Prakash was on board as the music director. He is working with Dhanush 8 years after Aadukulam.

Last month, he tweeted that he was excited about the album which featured two dance numbers. He also said he will be reuniting with his longtime collaborator, lyricist Egadesi. They have worked together on Otha Sollala from Aadukalam, yet another Vetrimaaran film.

Asuran is the 71st film for GV Prakash as a music director. For Dhanush and Vetrimaaran, this is the fourth film together after their successful PollathavanAadukalam and Vada Chennai. They are planning to begin shoot for Vada Chennai 2 after the release of Asuran.
