Actor Vijay Sethupathi recently released the first look poster of the upcoming film, 8 Thottakkal. A cop-thriller, the movie is directed by debutant director Sri Ganesh. The shooting of the film began on August 17.
8 Thottakkal is said to be woven around eight characters who are linked by a crime scene. Talking to Silverscreen.in the director said, “This crime thriller is set in Chennai. The movie revolves around eight characters whose lives are all affected, as a result of a certain crime. It also brings out how a crime affects the mentality of a middle-class family.”
The film has actress Aparna Balamurali of Maheshinte Prathikaaram fame and debutant actor Vetri in the lead roles. The film also has model-turned-actress Meera Mitun in an important role. Speaking to ToI, she said, “It’s a very intense and realistic girl-next-door character, which has a lot of scope to perform. I play one of the leads in the film”. Part of the supporting cast are Nasser, MS Bhaskar, Mime Gopi, and producer T Siva. KS Sundaramurthy will score the music for the film.

Director of ‘8 Thottakkal’ Sri Ganesh, was a finalist in season 3 of ‘Nalaya Iyakunar’ – a reality show which recognises emerging talents in film direction. He was also a former assistant of Director Mysskin. Speaking about his mentor, he said, “Having worked with director Mysskin has helped me develop clarity in work. He is adept at all departments involved in filmmaking and it has been very helpful to have worked under his tutelage”. The director intends to do movies that will convey strong emotions and make a mark in viewers’ minds. Some of Sri Ganesh’s famous short films are Parisu and Oru Koppai Theneer.
