Vishal, SR Prabhu Meet CBFC; Ask for Censor Process To Be Eased

Vishal CBFC GST

Vishal, S.R Prabhu, and other members of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council met the CBFC representatives in Chennai’s Shastri Bhavan. The team asked the board to ease the process of applying for and getting a censor certificate.

Dinamalar reports that Vishal said many Tamil films are missing their release dates, because of a delay in obtaining certificates from the CBFC. Filmmakers often get their clearance from the CBFC just a week before the scheduled date of release. Vishal and team asked for the certificates to be sent at least a month prior to film’s release.

Vishal also reiterated that the GST, which will come into effect July 1, will adversely impact Tamil Cinema, and said that a letter by Kamal Haasan, and endorsed by other Tamil cinema professionals, has been sent to union minister Arun Jaitley. Silverscreen earlier reported that Kamal Haasan said he will be forced to quit films if the GST rates for cinema comes into effect. Vishal had also said that the Tamil film industry will go on strike if Central and State governments do not address their problems, including piracy and GST.
