Vishal Says He Supports Tamils, But Nadigar Sangam Cannot

This Monday, actor Vishal publicly took a stand on the Sri Lankan Eelam issue, saying that as an individual he supports the cause of the Tamils. The announcement comes on the heels of protests by members of a radical Tamil group, the Tamil Progressive Force, who had burned effigies of Vishal. In an earlier statement, Vishal had said that the Nadigar Sangam as an institution wouldn’t take a stand on the Kaveri water issue or the Sri Lankan Eelam issue.

Vishal also said that talks had begun for a project which would feature young actors like himself and Karthi. This film’s profits would be used for the welfare of the Nadigar Sangam. On the subject of the Nadigar Sangam building, Vishal said that he expects the building to be constructed by end-2017, and that his marriage could wait until the building’s completion.

Vishal is currently acting in Pandiraj’s Kathakali, opposite Catherine Tresa.
