20 seconds of actor Vishal’s Kathakali, which recently released during Pongal, have been trimmed with the censor board’s approval. Petitioner KP Manibaba of the Tamil Nadu Vannar Community had earlier filed a case against Kathakali, claiming that certain dialogues in the film had caused mental stress to his community. Justice K Ravichandra Babu subsequently ordered the Central Board of Film Certification and others to reply to the petition within a week.
The minority community also directly approached Vishal and requested him to remove scenes that demean the Vannar community. After hearing their request, Vishal decided to trim 20 seconds of the film. The current runtime of Kathakali is 2 hours 5 minutes and 8 seconds.
Kathakali, directed by Pandiraj, stars Vishal and Catherine Tresa. The film, which has music by Hip Hop Adhi, has so far received positive reviews from critics and fans.
