The film’s teaser was released by the makers via social media on Wednesday.

Backed by the actor himself in association with Shubhra and Aryan Ramesh, under the VV Studioz banner, Mohandas is director Murali’s second film after Kalavu (2019).

Speaking to us about the upcoming film, Murali says, “At its core, it is a suspense drama. I cannot reveal too much of the story, but Mohandas is, in essence, about how an incident can change human emotions.”

The teaser concludes with the line “maybe a true story,” and when asked about this, the filmmaker says, “Even though I have written this film based on my imagination and the things that I have seen, the incident in it could have happened to anybody, or someone could connect to it simply by seeing it. Hence, we have used that line. One of the plot threads will be about determining whether the incident is a crime or not.”

Aside from Vishnu in the titular role, Mohandas also stars actors Indrajith Sukumaran, Aishwarya Rajesh, Karunakaran, Lallu, Prakash Raghavan, and Shariq Hassan. The filmmaker reveals that he took a lot of time to finalise the cast. “Each of them has such unique characterisations,” he adds.

Murali mentions that he wrote this script back in 2017. When Karunakaran, who was part of Kalavu, showed that film to his friend Vishnu, the latter had approached Murali for a collaboration and the filmmaker pitched the script of Mohandas. “That is how this project came about,” he says.

The film went on floors in March 2021 and has been shot in Chennai and Vizag. It was wrapped up around July 2021 and is currently in the final stages of post-production.

Murali has brought on board some of his collegemates to work on this film, namely cinematographer Vignesh Rajagopalan, edtior Kripakaran, and music director Sundaramurthy KS.

Sundaramurthy worked on the soundtrack of Kalavu as well and the director says his background score will be a big plus for Mohandas. He adds that there are two songs in the film, with lyrics by Karthik Netha.

When asked about the release, the filmmaker says the decision rests with the production house, but notes that the team is aiming for a theatrical release in 2022.
