The second trailer of Vishwaroopam 2, the sequel to the 2013 movie, was unveiled on Saturday and is a vast improvement from the underwhelming first one.
The teaser starts off with an internal inquiry in which Kamal Hassan’s character Major Wisam Ahmad Kashmiri is being told how he “has failed in his duty both as an officer and a gentleman.” This then is followed by fast cuts of a classical dance training session (to remind the viewer about Haasan’s character’s alter ego from the first movie) and Haasan in his military avatar chalking out a strategy for an attack.
It soon cuts to a sequence where a hijab-clad Andrea Jeremiah lands a few punches on a man while thanking Major Wisam’s training for helping her do the same. Shortly thereafter, Rahul Bose’s character refers to what appears to be Haasan’s character for having given training to Al-Qaeda.

All of this happens within the first twenty-two seconds of the minute-long trailer and it’s clear that the makers’ objective is to imbibe Haasan’s character with ambiguity. They want the viewer to question where Major Wisam’s loyalties lie. Pooja Kumar’s character questioning Haasan as to who he actually is, perfectly sums up the audience’s reaction to the first thirty seconds of the teaser. To that the extent at least, the makers have succeeded.
The rest of the trailer contains the regular montages of fights and explosions to indicate that it’s an action movie. The teaser ends with Haasan’s dig at politicians saying, “If only the politicians stopped killing each other and resorted to conversations, terrorism would’ve come to a close.” It ends with Haasan’s character proclaiming. “I’m a soldier turned espionage agent.”
The movie written and directed by Haasan is produced by V Ravichadran and is set to release on August 10.
