Vivek Oberoi will play Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his upcoming biopic by Omung Kumar, the director of Mary Kom. Produced by Sandip Singh, the film will go on floors by mid-January.
According to a News18 report, the biopic titled Narendra Modi has been in production for three years. “The team acquired the necessary permissions to go forth with the film only a few weeks ago. Vivek has been working on his distinct looks, and will be part of extensive workshops. A big chunk of the film will be shot in Gujarat, apart from other states,” a source close to the film said.
The first-look poster of the film will be released in 23 different languages by the Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, on January 7.
“Sandip Singh (producer) and Vivek came up with the idea of roping in the CM for the unveiling. When the makers approached him, he readily agreed. The event is scheduled to take place at the Garware Club House in South Mumbai. Apart from Vivek’s look, makers are also expected to announce the release date of the film,” the source said.
Sandip Singh and Omung Kumar have previously collaborated for Sarabjit, another biopic based on the life of Sarabjit Singh, who was detained in a prison in Pakistan.

Kumar last directed the 2017 film Bhoomi, said to be Sanjay Dutt’s comeback film. It was a revenge drama centred on a father (played by Dutt) who was out to take revenge on those who raped his daughter (Aditi Rao Hydari).
Narendra Modi is one among the many biopics to release this year. Hrithik Rohan’s Super 30 based on the life of Anand Kumar, Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika on the life of Rani Lakshmi Bhai, Riccha Chadda’s Shakeela on the life of the Malayalam actress, and Nawazzudin Siddiqui’s Thackeray will release in the first half of year.
