At the press meet of Vizhithiru held yesterday, the movie’s director Meera Kathiravan explained the reasons behind the film suffering a long delay in release. The audio and teaser launch had happened way back in 2015, and the movie, which was expected to release then, was pushed indefinitely.
“Vizhithiru got delayed due to Veeram‘s (2014) release. There was a double call-sheet, and since the film is set during the night time, it was shot entirely after sun-set,” he said. Also, Ajith told Vidharth to join Veeram, the director alleged. Unsurprisingly, Vidharth hadn’t turned up for the press meet, and the director was visibly confused about it.
“I don’t get the logic behind not attending promotional events for your own film. I know Ajith does that, so there are many following this. I mean, it’s your own film after all,” Meera said.
The director also spoke about the challenges the team faced while shooting at night. “It was expensive as we had no natural light to rely on. During several instances, we used torch lights, and the car’s headlights,” he said.

Sai Dhansika, who plays the female lead, had acted in the film before Kabali happened. “She has a dialogue in the film in which she says if she becomes an actress, she will get to perform with actors like Rajinikanth. Incidentally, she got Kabali offered to her three months later.”
Vizhithiru stars actor Krishna Kulasekaran in the lead, with performances by Vidharth, Sai Dhansika, Venkat Prabhu, Erica Fernandes and a dance number by T Rajendar. Music is by Sathyan Mahalingam, and cameraman-turned-director Vijay Milton handles cinematography. The movie is slated for a mid-March release.
Director Meera Kathiravan debuted with Aval Peyar Thamirazhasi in 2010.
