Actor Yogi Babu has commenced shooting for an upcoming Tamil film with Malayalam director Rejishh Midhila. The yet-to-titled project is produced by the director himself in association with Lijo James under The Great Indian Cinemas banner.
Rejishh, who has previously directed Malayalam films such as Innumuthal (2021), Varikkuzhiyile Kolapathakam (2019), and Lal Bahadur Shastri (2014), will be making his Tamil debut with the Yogi Babu-starrer.
Ramesh Thilak will also be playing the lead alongside Babu and the cast includes actors Urvashi, Karunakaran, George Maryan, and Hareesh Peradi.
Speaking to Silverscreen India, Rejishh says his upcoming Tamil film is a fantasy satire. “But it won’t be heavy on VFX,” he adds. “There will be a certain fantasy element connected to Yogi Babu’s character. Ramesh plays a debt-ridden autorickshaw driver, while Urvashi essays the owner of the flats where Ramesh, Karunakaran, and others stay. Her character will have comical touch. At the same time, she will be a guardian figure as well. The film is set in Chennai, but it will have a travel element.”

The film went on floors in Chennai on Sunday. A 30-day schedule has been planned in the city, followed by a five-day schedule at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The film will also be shot in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The team is looking to wrap the filming by February 2022.
The technical crew consists of Karthik S Nair as the cinematographer, with editing handed by Syalo. Bharath Shanker, who was the music director of Yogi Babu’s Mandela, will be scoring the music for this film as well. Director Rejishh reveals that the album will include four songs.
Rejishh, who has also penned the script, says the title of the film will be released sometime in January, along with the first look.
