Yuvan Shankar Raja is all set to score the music for Maari 2, the sequel to the 2015 Balaji Mohan film starring Dhanush and Kajal Aggarwal. The music composer will be collaborating with Dhanush after almost a decade, the last two films being Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram (2007) and Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008). The announcement was made on Christmas day.

In Maari 2, Dhanush reprises his role of eccentric local gangster. Sai Pallavi will essay the female lead, taking over from Kajal Aggarwal. The film will be shot simultaneously in Telugu as well as Tamil. Much of the original cast is returning for the sequel, with another addition being Malayalam star Tovino Thomas, known for his roles in films such as Oru Mexican Aparatha, Godha and Ezra, who will play the villain in this film.
The film is being bankrolled by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films.
