Maari 2‘s “Rowdy Baby” lyric video is out, and it needs no visuals. The romance between Dhanush and Sai Pallavi is full of energy. It’s cheeky, stupid, and of the best kind. It’s also full of contradictions – she calls him a waste buffalo but her rowdy baby; he calls her his silku satta and weight katta but asks her to melt in love. In a later stanza, he calls her his Rani Jhansi, says he’ll get her a pony, and then the lyrics reverse – she’s his rowdy baby, and he, her silku satta. This is the new trend for lovers, they tell us.

Two Dhanush songs come to mind while listening to Rowdy Baby – “Don’u Don’u Don’u” from the previous Maari, for its lyrics; and “Kolaveri Di” for its slower, peppier music. But you’ll love Rowdy Baby for different reasons. There’s no strain in love here like his other songs. The two are already in love and must just do something about it now.
“Rowdy Baby” was written by Dhanush, and composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Dhanush sings his part with Dhee, who, through the song taunts him and herself in her north Chennai slang. Like her lyrics, her voice too gets the right amount of attention. She’s a lot like him, so between the two of them they’re equal. And we know this from the posters and teasers too.
Directed by Balaji Mohan, Maari 2 is produced by Dhanush under Wunderbar Films. The movie will release on December 21. And while we wait, we can listen to Rowdy Baby and get jealous; because unlike “Kolaveri Di” where we cried with Dhanush the soup-boy, here Sai and Dhanush are madly in love and we can only watch.
