The Nadigar Sangam elections have, above all, been a war of words. There were more words this Wednesday, as Sarath Kumar, the incumbent president of the Nadigar Sangam, responded to the Pandavar Ani’s allegations with some words of his own at a press meeting. Sarathkumar showed the original documents of the disputed land at T Nagar. He further said that the land had not been sold to anyone.
Allegation: The decision to lease the land to SPI Ciemas was taken by Sarath Kumar and the General Secretary Radha Ravi, without the consent of the other members.

Defence: The agreement with SPI Cinemas was cleared with the approval of the Executive Council. Members of the Nadigar Sangam had been informed at a General Body Meeting.

Allegation: The Nadigar Sangam hasn’t filed income tax returns for the past five years.

Defence: As per Section 12 A of the Income Tax Act, a non-profit organization like the Nadigar Sangam doesn’t need to file income-tax returns, as long as it doesn’t earn profits.
Sarathkumar also showed the press the lease agreement between the Nadigar Sangam and SPI Cinemas, where it is stated that the Nadigar Sangam would get 2500 square feet office of space, with maintenance charges waived. Sarath Kumar also said that at the end of the lease period of 30 years, the Nadigar Sangam would have an accrued income of Rs.130 crores. Video footage of the official meeting was also shown to the media.
Sarathkumar closed by saying that his prospects in the election were bright. According to him, change in the organisation could only be brought by having experienced actors as office bearers. Sarath Kumar’s team released their election manifesto, which includes a word of warning. That action will be taken against those who have made false allegations against other members of the Nadigar Sangam.
