“Today, I am a proud producer”, said a beaming Siddharth at the press meet of Jil Jung Juk. He plays dual roles in the film – Of hero and producer. At the jovial event held at Sathyam Cinemas, the cast and crew members of the film heaped praises on each other, and shared jokes and anecdotes. The event culminated in a happy group photo, with all the cast and crew members in a ‘shooting the kuruvi‘ pose. Visibly, the crew members of Jil Jung Juk share a great rapport, and post the event, they were even spotted hanging out at a local tea shop near Sathyam!
Here is what we saw and heard at the event:
- Siddharth said that the film had the best team one could ever expect, and added that if the name ‘Siddharth’ was the biggest draw in the film until now, the rest of the cast and crew would be celebrated after the film’s release.
- Avinash and Sananth, who play Jung and Juk respectively, were more than happy to be meeting the press. Interestingly, Avinash had played ‘Jil’ in a pilot film the crew had made before approaching Siddarth. “It was tough to play Jung, because I was stuck between Jil and Juk the whole time” he said.
- Radha Ravi, who plays ‘Rolex’ Rowther in the movie, said that his role was different from all the characters he had played in his 42-year long career. He quipped that Siddharth was lucky that the film did not have a heroine. “These days, it takes a lot to get the actresses to promote films, and finally, when they are at any of the film events, the press would create controversies by posing questions about their clothes or something similar. Such issues often end up in protests outside the producers’ home”, he said. (That escalated quick!)
- Radha Ravi has sung a small rap portion in the viral ‘Shoot the Kuruvi‘ song in the film. At the press meet, he even got introduced as ‘the rap-master’. “I just mouthed the words they had given me, and now they are calling me a rap-master. I don’t even know what rap is. Recently, I got a call from a music producer in Mumbai, who said he wanted me to sing a song in his next venture. He said my voice was ‘sooooo nice‘. Let me tell you, not a single person in my family has a voice that can be called ‘nice’. Even when they write gossips about me, they write ‘Karakarappana kuralukku sondhakarar’ (Actor with a hoarse voice), ” said the the actor, and this honest admission cracked up the audience.
- Deeraj Vaidy, the director, started his speech by clarifying the spelling of his name. He asked the journalists to make sure it’s spelled the right way in their reports. Fair Enough. “When I narrated the script of the film to Siddarth, he said that he believed in me and my story, but asked me to find a producer who had the guts to produce it. Two days later, I got a call from him saying that he was ready to produce the film, ” revealed the director.
- Siddharth stated that he had not even applied for tax exemption for the film, even though it would qualify. “Paravala naan tax kattitu poren (No problem, I can pay the tax)”, he said.
