The Masala Padam team went a novel way to kick off the audio and trailer launch of the film – They staged a skit, quite an impressive one, to introduce the lead characters.
After the play, the trailer and songs of the movie were screened to a packed hall at Sathyam Cinemas. The trailer was received by the crowd with hoots and whistles. Apparently, the movie talks about the friction between producers and movie reviewers. Two songs from the movie were screened for the audience, and one of them was an animation song which depicted the evolution of cinema.
The film’s director, Laxman, is a cinematographer who has cranked camera for films such as Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu. “I couldn’t make heads or tails of Masala Padam when the director met me for a discussion. All I could understand was the basic storyline”, said actor Bobby Simha, who added, “Even though Laxman could not narrate the script properly, I had the confidence in him. He is highly talented”.
Interestingly, the two lead stars of Masala Padam, Simha and Shiva, don’t have any combination scene. “Masala Padam is a movie that educates people on how movie industry works”, said Mirchi Shiva, who was last seen in Vanakkam Chennai in 2013. According to actor Venkat, who has essayed the role of a producer in the movie, Bobby Simha has only limited dialogues in the movie.
The guest of honor for the event was ace director Suresh Krishna, who directed commercially successful ‘mass’ movies like Annamalai and Baasha. “Masala Padam does not have a story. But it has a never-seen-before concept, and it has been presented with minute details. The climax twist is something that I did not see coming. I will confidently say that Masala Padam will be a hit ” Suresh Krishna added that if Bobby Simha teams up with the right directors, he could go a long way in Tamil film industry.
Masala Padam boasts a team of young actors and assistant directors. Their passion for cinema culminated into a movie called Masala Padam.
