The audio launch of Paayum Puli began with the unveiling of a portrait of late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, followed by a minute’s silence and a poem recital by Vairamuthu. Instead of welcoming the guests with flower bouquets, producer P Madhan of Vendhar movies presented them with a copy of Kalam’s Wings of Fire.

The trailer of the film bore a typical Suseenthiran touch to it. Paayum Puli seems like a gritty cop story with Vishal literally ‘pouncing’ on villains in many shots. Music composer D Imman finally seems to have taken a detour from his typical style of music and has composed a few interesting tunes for the film. The audio was released by Paarivendhar of Vendhar Movies, and was received by Siva of Coimbatore Cattle Care. Unlike every other audio function, where a huge cardboard model of the CD would be unveiled, The Paayum Puli CD was presented to everyone on the dais sans any fuss.

Highlights from the event :

  • Director Suseenthiran was presented the ‘Best Producer’s Director Award’ for his efficient and cost-effective filmmaking methods.
  • Music director Imman said many good things about Vishal, after the actor visibly ‘prodded’ him with a note. He commented that Paayum Puli would be a ‘very important film in the careers of both Vishal and Suseenthiran’.
  • Kajal Aggarwal, who looked graceful in a subtle yellow Neeta Lulla saree, had kind words (in English) to say about the team of Paayum Puli and added that she had fun dancing to Imman’s tunes.
  • Soori provided comic relief in the event as well, commenting that he sees Imman wherever he goes. He also thanked Vairamuthu for inventing the term ‘silku-maram’ through his lyrics.
  • Vishal’s father GK Reddy provided some laughs with his speech. He said that he is a big fan of Kajal Aggarwal and was waiting for the day Vishal would act with her. He went on to say that producers are five-star beggars, himself being an erstwhile producer.
  • Vairamuthu shared some interesting trivia. Out of the 8000-odd songs he has written, around 7960 of them were written according to the tune composed. Some great songs like Kannuku Mai Azhagu were first written and then, the tune was set. After a very long time, Yaar Andha Muyal Kutti from Paayum Puli was composed in such a manner, and the veteran lyricist thanked Imman for the same.
  • Vairamuthu also had some piece of advice for K’Town biggies like Vijay, Ajith and Surya, requesting them to work with director Suseenthiran, whom he considers ‘one of the most sincere filmmakers of the generation’.
  • Vishal decided to not speak about the film, and instead made a promise that he would help underprivileged students receive better education. He also requested his fans to follow suit.

The event ended, but not without a bang. In what seemed like the first time at Sathyam Cinemas, Vishal was given a grand send off by his fans, complete with a band belting out some kuthu music.
