After waiting for nearly two hours at RKV Studios, the trailer launch of Ponniyin Selvan finally began with Thamizh Thaai Vaazhthu earlier this afternoon. The teaser, though, was nothing short of excellent, so we quite forgave the delay. While it brimmed with vibrant cultural and traditional motifs of the Chola dynasty, we also felt that it lacked continuity. But again, it was evident that a lot of painstaking effort had gone into the making of the teaser.
Director SP Jhananathan, cartoonist Madhan and Kalyana Maalai Mohan were the chief guests at the trailer launch. Director M Karthikeyan has assembled a skillful team to make the 2D version of the Tamil historical drama. The chief guests showered praises on the teaser, and the effort to recreate a historical drama in the form of an animation movie.
Jointly produced by P Saravanaraja of 5 Elements Entertainment Pvt Ltd along with Valamaana Tamizhagam, the pre-production work for the movie is nearing the last stages. As of now, the entire team is working on character-designing, background scene creations, and the screenplay. The most challenging task that the team faces is to showcase the entire novel (comprising five volumes) in 120 minutes.
This animated movie is slated to release sometime in 2017. Made on a budget of over Rs 20 crores, it has given life to 150 animation artistes. Ponniyin Selvan 2D is being edited by B Lenin.
