The show, produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India, will be an adaptation of the British series Luther for Indian audiences. The original series starred Idris Elba.

Talking about his character, Devgn said in a statement, “Playing a cop on screen is not new to me, but this time the character is more intense, complex, and dark. What drew me most to his persona, is that he is possibly the greyest character you may come across in recent times.”

Rudra- The Edge of Darkness will release on Disney+ Hotstar later this year.

While details on other cast members and the premiere date are yet to be announced, Rudra – The Edge of Darkness will soon be going into production and will be shot across “iconic locations in Mumbai”, the press release said.

In the original series, Elba plays the role of DCI John Luther and Alice Morgan plays the role of Ruth Wilson. The five-season series aired between 2010 and 2019.

Devgn is the latest to join the list of Hindi film actors making their debut on OTT platforms. Recently, Shahid Kapoor announced that he will be seen on Amazon Prime Video in an untitled drama thriller created by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, while Akshay Kumar confirmed action show The End for Amazon Prime Video.
