Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap on Sunday took to Instagram and called out a fake casting call on social media for Season 3 of his series Sacred Games.
Announcing that there is no third season of the series in the works, Kashyap shared a screenshot of the Instagram Story with the fake casting call and requested followers to report the scamster. He wrote, “This man is a scamster. Please report him. There is no season 3 of Sacred Games happening. I am filing an FIR against this person.”
The screenshot the filmmaker shared mentions that female actors of different age groups are wanted who “must be ok with bold scenes.” The account that put out this post has been deactivated.
Such fake casting calls seem to be a regular phenomenon in the entertainment industry lately. In July 2021, director Rajkumar Hirani’s office filed an FIR with the police after someone created a fake Instagram profile impersonating Hirani’s son Kabir. The individual put out a casting call for actors to audition for a film called “Teenage Cinema” and even sent messages demanding money from those who responded to the call.
Shanoo Sharma, YRF’s casting director, has also time and again posted warnings on social media about fake casting calls.
Earlier, casting director Tess Joseph had told Silverscreen India, “With access to social media, these instances have become more rampant. Before, we would sit in our offices and audition actors, but post the pandemic and shutting of formal office spaces, online auditions/self-tapes have become the norm. This allows for fraud/fake casting calls.”
