Actors Billy Porter, Zachary Quinto, and EJ Johnson joined the cast of Disney+’s The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, the streaming giant announced on Thursday. This will mark the third season of the American animated sitcom.
“Porter and Quinto, respectively, voice Randall and Barry Leibowitz-Jenkins, mixed-race adoptive parents to 14-year-old activist Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, previously announced to be voiced by Keke Palmer. Johnson will voice Michael Collins, Penny’s best guy friend who is a non-conforming trendsetter, serving up fierce looks at school and on the basketball court,” a press release stated.
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will pick up the story of its central character Penny Proud and include her madcap family- parents Oscar and Trudy, twin siblings BeBe and CeCe, and her grandmother Suga Mama, read Disney’s statement.
The return of The Proud Family series was announced in February 2020 with the Academy Award winning creator Bruce W Smith along with Ralph Farquhar, and the voice cast reprising their respective roles of Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, Jo Marie Payton as Suga Mama, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer and Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez. Cedric the Entertainer will also return as Uncle Bobby Proud.
Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide called it “a brilliant social commentary on our life and times” under the guise of a family comedy.

The first two seasons, available on Disney+, premiered on Disney channel from 2001 to 2005, respectively. Smith along with Doreen Spencer developed the series. It was also made into a television film for Disney and released in 2005.
Smith and Farquhar will also serve as the executive producers along with Calvin Brown as the co-executive producer and story editor, Jan Hirota as the producer, and Eastwood Wong as the art director.
The series is currently in production at Disney Television Animation and is slated for a 2022 release.
