The series, directed by Pushpendra Nath Misra, will also feature Aashim Gulati, a television actor who has appeared in shows like Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara and Karn Sangini. Gulati is making his digital debut with the series. Vikram Kochhar, Namit Das, Monika Panwar, Gyanendra Tripathi, Chandan Roy, Atul Srivastava, and Niharika Lyra Dutt will also play pivotal roles in the comedy drama series.

As per Netflix’s logline, Choona is both a heist story and a comedy drama in which an unlikely group of people band together to take down a common enemy—a corrupt politician who has wronged them.

“The excitement of discovering who deceived whom and how they did it is incomparable, especially when it’s the weak pitted against the powerful,” Misra said in a statement.

Speaking about the title of the series, Misra said “What comes to your mind when you hear the word choona? For me, it is the quintessentially Indian phrase choona lagaana (literally, to whitewash, but used in the context of deception).”

Misra added that they have already begun work on the series. According to sources, shooting for the series, based in Uttar Pradesh, had earlier begun in Lucknow before the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

Sheirgill has appeared in two other digital series, Your Honor, streaming on SonyLIV, and Rangbaaz Phirse, streaming on Zee5. Choona marks his first collaboration with Netflix.
