With Covid-19 cases increasing exponentially in the country, several states, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, have imposed restrictions on how theatres function.
With the Delhi government shuting down its cinema halls and occupancy being capped at 50% in several states, big-budget films like Radhe Shyam, RRR and Jersey, which were slated to release in theatres in January, have been postponed. The situation has also led to uncertainty regarding the release of other films, including Ajith Kumar-starrer Valimai.
With the current situation, it is likely that several films might opt for an OTT release. Here are seven new films and shows releasing on OTT platforms this week:
1. Hype House Season 1 – Netflix (January 7)
Hype House is a collective of TikTok personalities based in Los Angeles. The Netflix series will give an inside look at social media’s most talked-about stars as they navigate love, fame and friendship while creating content and living together.
2. Dear Mother – Netflix (January 11)
Dear Mother revolves around Jean-Louis, whose heart stops beating. With the help of his wife and a friend, he tries to understand the origin of this mystery. He must also confront his Oedipal issues and ask his mother an unthinkable question.
3. Cubicles Season 2 – SonyLiv (January 7)
Cubicles portrays the life of Piyush, who is adjusting to his first job and the changes it brings.
4. El Deafo – Apple Tv+ (January 7)
El Deafo follows young Cece as she loses her hearing and finds her inner superhero. Going to school and making new friends can be tough. Having to do both while wearing a bulky hearing aid on your chest? With a little help from her superhero alter ego, El Deafo, Cece learns to embrace what makes her extraordinary.
5. Kaun Banegi Shikharwati – Zee5 (January 7)
In Kaun Banegi Shikharwati, a former king, who has a dysfunctional family, devises an outlandish plan to unite his estranged daughters. Meanwhile, an income tax investigation looms over the palace’s hidden treasure

7. The Tender Bar – Amazon Prime Video (January 7)
