Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, the Indian filmmaking duo popularly known as Raj & DK, are set to collaborate with Netflix on an upcoming series titled Guns & Gulaabs.
The web series will be created and directed by Raj & DK, who rose to fame with the Amazon Prime show The Family Man. The duo will also produce Guns & Gulaabs under their D2R Films Production banner.
Co-written by Suman Kumar and Sumit Arora along with Raj & DK, the “quirky” series is “inspired by the misfits of the world,” according to the official press release. “Guns & Gulaabs is a story that depicts love and innocence, set in a world of crime. The series is set to uniquely blend the romance of the 90s with a crime thriller while effortlessly lacing it in humour,” the statement read.
Speaking about the series and their collaboration with the streaming platform, Raj & DK said, “Netflix has always been a pioneering service offering constantly cutting edge content. We are especially thrilled to roll out this wicked genre mash with some of the finest cast and crew from our country.”
Tanya Bami, Netflix India’s Series Head, said, “Bringing their unique storytelling style to Netflix, Raj & DK blend romance, crime and the inimitable humour that’s signature to the duo, into Guns & Gulaabs which will captivate audiences in India and across the world.”
Raj & DK’s D2R Film Productions banner had previously partnered with Netflix for the indie Telugu film Cinema Bandi, which premiered on the platform in May 2021. Guns & Gulaabs will mark the duo’s first web series for Netflix.
Earlier, an exclusive report by PeepingMoon said that Dulquer Salmaan had been roped in to play one of the lead roles in Raj & DK’s web series for Netflix, alongside actors Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav. According to the report, Salmaan was brought on board as the replacement for Diljit Dosanjh, who was earlier cast in the role but backed out of the project due to date issues.
