According to a report by Deadline, the 10-episode season will commence shooting in Toronto in Canada. Based on the comic book series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy made its debut on Netflix in February, 2019. The second season premiered this July.

The plot of The Umbrella Academy revolves around seven adopted superhero siblings who reunite after their father’s death and try to solve the mystery behind it. The seven children are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares the siblings to save the world. Season one shows the siblings coming together to face an apocalypse and several other imminent threats.

Season 2 picks up from where the first one left off and ends in a cliffhanger where the Hargreeves siblings return to the present day after living in the 1960s for a while. They come back to discover that their journey through time has created an altered present day, in which The Umbrella Academy does not exist. Instead, another group, The Sparrow Academy, is introduced whose children are also seemingly adopted by Hargreeves.

The third season will reportedly elaborate on the The Sparrow Academy. It is speculated that another academy may be introduced in the upcoming season.
