Netflix announced its first Tamil film Paava Kadhaigal, an anthology comprising four stories which will be directed by filmmakers Gautham Menon, Sudha Kongara, Vetrimaaran and Vignesh Shivan. The announcement comes a day after Amazon Prime Video announced the release of an anthology of five Tamil short films called Putham Pudhu Kaalai.
The film will be bankrolled under the RSVP Movies banner headed by Ronnie Screwvala and the Flying Unicorn entertainment banner headed by Ashi Dua Sara.

According to a PTI report, the four stories in the film explore how love, pride and honour influence relationships. The cast includes Anjali, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Hari, Kalidas Jayaram, Kalki Koechlin, Padam Kumar, Prakash Raj, Sai Pallavi, Shanthnu Bhagyaraj and Simran, among others.
Talking about his experience, Gautham Menon, who is known for his movies such as Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa and Minnale, said in statement: “To explore a complex, difficult theme in an authentic and honest manner alongside incredibly talented directors is a tremendous opportunity. The anthology reflects how pride, honour and social standing continue to influence individual choices all around us.”

Talking about working with Netflix, Vetri Maaran added, “I enjoyed making this anthology with Netflix as I was able to focus on telling the story I wanted to. The freedom of filmmaking I experienced with Paava Kadhaigal was fulfilling.”
Speaking about the film, Sudha Kongara said in a statement, “Each story in this anthology explores unconventional, unfettered, and unconditional love. It’s great that these incredible stories will reach viewers in India and around the world with Netflix.”
“This film explores the dark, often agonising side of human relationships, tabling thoughts many have but are afraid to vocalise,” said Shivan.
Other anthology films that have released on Netflix include Lust Stories and Ghost Stories, directed by Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar.
