The new series, which has been greenlit for 10 episodes, will also be a multi-cam sitcom like its predecessor. Creators of the original hit show, Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner, and their daughter Lindsey Turner will be writing and executive producing the upcoming show.

Original cast members Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith will be reprising their roles as Kitty and Red Forman. The actors are also serving as the new series’ executive producers. Gregg Mettler has been roped in as a writer and showrunner.

According to a Deadline report, there are expectations that other cast members like Mila Kunis (Jackie Burkhart), Ashton Kutcher (Michael Kelso), Topher Grace (Eric Forman), and Laura Prepon (Donna Pinciotti) will reprise their roles as guest stars in the spin-off.

Known for its pop culture references, That 70s Show told the story of six teenagers in the fictional town of Point Place in Wisconsin from May 17, 1976, to December 31, 1979. Rupp and Smith, who formed the older cast members, appeared as Eric’s working-class conservative parents.

That 70s Show ran for 200 episodes between 1998 to 2006 on Fox.

Following the success and cult following of the show, a sequel That 80s Show was announced by Fox. However, the show ran for only five months in 2002 and was subsequently cancelled.

Set in 1995, That 90s Show will tell the story of Leia Forman, the daughter of Eric and Donna (Grace and Prepon’s characters from the original series), who is visiting her grandparents, Kitty and Red Forman, in Point Place, Wisconsin. During her time there, she bonds with the town’s new generation under her grandparents’ supervision.

Before ordering That 90s Show, Netflix had been toying with the idea of a spin-off for many years. When the premise of the new show started gaining traction last year, the streaming platform quickly announced its interest in developing it.
