Directed by Ramin Bahrani, the movie is an adaptation of the 2008 Aravind Adiga novel of the same name. The White Tiger won Adiga the 40th Man Booker Prize.
Apart from Chopra and Rao, the film also features Adarsh Gourav.
“*CALMS DOWN AND STOPS SCREAMING* From writer-director Ramin Bahrani and executive producers @ava & @priyankachopra here’s a first look at Adarsh Gourav, @RajkummarRao and @priyankachopra in THE WHITE TIGER, based on the fantastic Aravind Adiga novel! *GOES BACK TO SCREAMING*” Netflix India tweeted on Thursday.
Soon after, Chopra took to her Instagram and explained her role in the movie.
“In #TheWhiteTiger, I play the role of Pinky madam, who is a first generation immigrant in the US. She is in India with her husband, who is travelling for business. And then… life changes! Pinky madam is such a specific character, to play her unravelling in the story was such a joy. This is a story that needs to be told and it comes alive with its characters so compellingly in Ramin’s hands. The White Tiger, coming soon to Netflix globally,” she wrote.

Chopra also expressed her excitement about working with a new cast and spoke about Rao’s and Gourav’s role in the movie.
The caption of her Instagram post reads: “So proud to present the first look of THE WHITE TIGER – directed, written, and produced by Ramin Bahrani, based on The New York Times Bestseller and the 2008 Man Booker Prize-winning novel. This is a story about a family and the plight of one man – Balram Halwai played by Adarsh Gourav, one of the most talented newcomers I’ve ever worked with, and one of the most remarkable performances I’ve seen in a long time. Balram’s rise from a poor villager to successful entrepreneur in modern India showcases how hunger and the lack of opportunity can build and drive a human being’s animal instinct of survival. Rajkumar Rao, already one of the most prolific actors in india, will showcase depths very few can. The film is powerful. It will make you uncomfortable, and most importantly it will entertain you. Coming soon to Netflix globally.”
The White Tiger centres around Balram Halwai, a native of Rajasthan’s Laxmangarh village, who starts his journey by working as a chauffeur in Delhi to a rich landlord. As the story progresses, he kills his employer and flees to Bengaluru with his employer’s money. He then sets up his own business and sheds off his sweet maker caste and emerges as a successful entrepreneur. The novel touches upon several topics, such as globalisation, social and economic mobility, caste oppression and morality.
Netflix announced a bunch of new releases including screen adaptation of Vikram Seth’s novel A Suitable Boy byMira Nair, Anurag Kashyap‘s Netflix release, a dark anthology comedy, Ludo; Girish Malik‘s Torbaaz starring Sanjay Dutt and Nargis Fakhri; Mismatched, based on Sandhya Menon’s book When Dimple Met Rishi.
Recent notable works of director Bahrani include American drama 99 Homes and Fahrenheit 451, an American dystopian drama.
Rao was last seen in Shimla Mirchi, starring Rakul Preet Singh and Hema Malini as the leads. The actor’s upcoming films include Chhalaang which is releasing this Diwali; Kashyap’s Ludo; and a comedy horror Roohi Afzana starring Janhvi Kapoor.
