Songs from the 1960s had lyricists associating nature, birds, and flowers to romance. Back then, Tamil songs had a lot of references to sparrows or kuruvis, often indicating that the heroine is the delicate, little bird in the hero’s life. For World Sparrows Day, our ‘Song Of The Day’ features a romantic number from 1964, featuring Sivaji Ganesan and Saroja Devi as lovers spending quality time in gardens. The video has flowers and beautiful mountains in the backdrop, inspiring the two lovers to sing for each other.
Puthiya Paravai is a romantic story with a tragic past, about how a businessman named Gopal (Sivaji Ganesan) falls in love with a woman named Latha (Saroja Devi), but is haunted by the death of his wife Chitra (Sowkar Janaki). The film also stars MR Radha, Nagesh, and Manorama.
The film’s songs in particular were fairly famous, since TM Soundararajan and P Susheela were the only two singers roped in.
