Director Santhosh’s crime-thriller Kanithan is finally gearing up for release, after lying in the cans for a long time. Lead actor Atharvaa, who portrays a crime reporter bent on uncovering a complicated crime, has said several times that his role in Kanithan will mark an important milestone in his career. The teaser shows Atharvaa as a determined, capable reporter, actively helping the police to gather evidence on a crime nexus. Atharvaa initially thinks that the criminals are selling fake certificates, but later realises that the operation runs deeper
The teaser also suggests that through this quest, Atharvaa will discover his own identity. The opening sequence sets up a surprise as a deliberate kidnap is orchestrated. The suspense and drama builds as the teaser progresses, and Atharvaa is pitted against ever-increasing danger. He refuses to back down, and seems convincing in his role as a responsible mediaperson. Surprisingly, veteran actor-director K Bhagyaraj plays a police officer. His character is very supportive of Atharvaa, and the duo team up to take down the criminals.
The scene in which the hero meets the villain is strongly reminiscent of the Vijay-Vidyut Jamwal scene from Thuppakki. Instead of ‘I will find you and kill you’, here the villain says, ‘Catch me if you can’. Then wishes Atharvaa luck. It doesn’t faze the hero.
Produced by Kalaipuli Thanu’s V Creations, Kanithan also stars actress Catherine Tresa and Karunakaran. Once the film releases, all eyes will be on what looks like a controlled screenplay and an intrigue-ridden plot. After Eetti‘s success, Kanithan might well be Atharvaa’s next big film.
