Happy Birthday, Harris Jayaraj! As a tribute, here’s a song that features some standard Harris Jayaraj touches – a nice, lilting tune with layered vocals, that feeling of hearing the singer from somewhere deep in a well, sections that could have been called hip-hop or rap some 20 years ago but are probably spoken-word portions of the lyrics, and multiple instruments making their presence felt. Perhaps standard Harris template, but the music still works and we have a lovely song in what is a fairly intense political thriller. A little break from the proceedings allowing us to relax, take in those white people in white towns and exotic locations before heading back to guns, bombs, policemen and journalists. Perhaps that’s Harris Jayaraj’s best – a break when we need it, with easy tunes and music that actually calms us down. Light listening at its best.
