Happy birthday director Shankar! Our song of the day is ‘Irumbile Oru Idhaiyam’ from Shankar’s Enthiran starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai. The album by AR Rahman had seven upbeat songs which were all hits. ‘Irumbile Oru Idhaiyam’ marked the debut of singers Kash and Krissy in Tamil cinema, and was choreographed by Remo D’Souza. Aishwarya Rai’s dance is a stand out in this song. She is paired opposite Chitti, Rajinikanth’s second role as a robot in the film.
Shankar’s Enthiran was the highest grossing film of 2010, and he followed it up with the sequel 2.0 in 2018. Shankar, who is one of the most successful directors in India today, entered the industry as an aspiring actor. He was introduced by SA Chandrasekhar as a scriptwriter, and directed his first film Gentlemen in 1993, after which he made Kadhalan, Indian, Mudhalvan and many hits.
