Happy birthday, Pooja Bedi! Our song of the day is ‘Pehla Nasha’ from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, which was Pooja Bedi’s second and most memorable film. She is an actor, writer, TV show host, who has appeared in seven movies and many dance shows. Her career took off with Jo Jeeta… in 1992, a film about first loves and rivalries of students, played by Aamir Khan, Ayesha Jhulka, Pooja Bedi, Deepak Tijori, who were all starting out in films then.
25 years after release, ‘Pehla Nasha’ remains Bollywood’s favourite love song across generations. It opens with Sandhana Sargam’s vocals to a piano sequence, and Jatin and Lalit’s classic composition of a melodious, happy and hummable song. This was Farah Khan’s first as a choreographer. Pooja Bedi recreated the famous Marilyn Monroe flying skirt moment, and the song, shot in slow motion, became a rage after release.
