In Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Ranbir Kapoor is playing a familiar role – Of a brooding young man with a complicated relationship. The teaser of the film, which was released this morning, is reminiscent of many of the actor’s other films like Rockstar and Tamasha, yet maybe his most different one.
In the teaser, Ranbir is seen romancing two women – A bubbly Anushka Sharma and an enigmatic Aishwarya Rai Bachchan – in the backdrops of a plangent number sung by Arijit Singh. While his scenes with Anushka are breezy, he is seen pursuing an intense, steamy romance with Aishwarya Rai. The one-and-a-half-minute teaser soon shifts to Ranbir’s character shuttling between the good and the bad times, particularly with Anushka. Fawad Khan makes an appearance, essaying Anushka’s significant other. A glimpse of Ranbir and Aishwarya’s relationship shows that they are together, with her eyeing Anushka after they exchanged smiles. Perhaps a love story marred with affairs like Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna?
Karan Johar, whose films delve into relationships, is back again with an interesting set of lead actors. With the usual amount of drama and love, Johar’s new film’s teaser also makes one curious. The last few seconds of the teaser especially. Riddled with angst, a decked up Anushka Sharma as the bride looks at Ranbir from the mirror. “Ek tarfa pyar ki taaqat hi kuch aur hoti hai, auro ke rishton ki tarah yeh do logon mein nahi bathti, sirf mera haq hai ispe (unrequited love has its own strength, it doesn’t get divided between two people, it is only mine to claim),” he responds, followed by a score of dramatic music, by composer Pritam Chakraborty.
The film also stars veteran actress Deepti Naval and Lisa Haydon in supporting roles. It is slated for a Diwali release on 28 October this year.
