Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, on Thursday morning, officially announced the biopic of Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena. In the film, titled Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Janhvi Kapoor will portray Saxena who was the only female pilot involved in the Kargil war in 1999. The production house has also released three posters of the film on social media.

Saxena, the daughter of an Army officer, was 25 when she was posted at at Srinagar Air field from where she was called on duty to Kargil. She was part of the first female batch of 25 Indian Air Force trainee pilots in 1994. Post the war, she was awarded Shaurya Vir, a gallantry honour for valour, becoming the first woman to win it.

The film, a joint-production venture between Dharma and Zee Studios, will be directed by Sharan Sharma, who has worked as a creative director in Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Actor Pankaj Tripathi and Neena Gupta plays Gunjan’s parents in the film and Angad Bedi, her brother. The team recently wrapped up the film’s Georgia schedule. Janhvi, who debuted through Dhadak, also produced by Karan Johar, will be next seen in the director-producer’s Takht, a multi-starrer which has Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor, Alia and Bhumi Pednekar portraying the pivotal characters. Reportedly, she also wrapped up shooting for Roohi Afza recently, in which Rajkummar Rao is her co-star.
