Actor Dhanush and Filmmaker Mari Selvaraj to Reunite After Success of ‘Karnan’

Actor Dhanush and filmmaker Mari Selvaraj will be reuniting for another Tamil film after their recently-released film Karnan, the actor announced on social media on Friday.

While there is no information yet on other cast members, Dhanush said that film was in the pre-production stage. He said that the film will go on floors in 2022.

Selvaraj, who made his directorial debut in the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018) that touched upon caste conflicts and honour killing.

According to a report by The Times of India, Dhanush and Selvaraj had discussed collaborating on another film after Karnan. The filmmaker had narrated the script to Dhanush over the phone since the actor is currently shooting in the US. The new film will not be a sequel to Karnan. The report added that since Selvaraj and Dhanush have other film commitments at present, the shooting for their new film will start only after they wrap up their pending projects.

Meanwhile, Dhanush currently has a slew of upcoming projects. His action thriller Jagame Thandhiram, under the directorial of Karthik Subbaraj, will release exclusively on Netflix. The actor is also part of the upcoming Hindi romantic drama Atrangi Re, co-starring Akshay Kumar, and Sara Ali Khan, and wrapped up his shooting in March. He is also part of the cast of The Russo Brother’s upcoming Netflix Hollywood film The Gray Man, along with Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, and Ana de Armas. Dhanush will also star in the sequel of the 2010 action-adventure film, Aayirathil Oruvan, which will be directed by his brother and filmmaker Selvaraghavan.

On the other hand, Selvaraj will be directing Dhruv Vikram. According to Cinema Express, the film is expected to be a sports-based biopic, where Dhruv will be playing a kabaddi player. The untitled film is backed by Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions.
