Subodh Chopra, Dialogue Writer of ‘Murder’, Dies of Covid-19 

Subodh Chopra, who wrote dialogues for Hindi films like Murder and Rog, died in Mumbai on May 14 due to post-Covid complications. His brother, Shanky, confirmed the news to ETimes and said that while Chopra had recovered from Covid-19, his health had rapidly deteriorated post-recovery.

Talking to ETimes, his brother said, “He had tested negative last week, but his condition took a turn for the worse on Monday [May 10]. His oxygen levels suddenly dropped and I made arrangements for a cylinder at home. He was feeling very exhausted and his blood pressure had risen as well. This morning, his condition deteriorated further, and I admitted him to the Lifeline Hospital in Malad. However, he passed away after a cardiac arrest. These were all complications that came after he got Covid-free.”

The writer, along with his brother and sister-in-law had tested positive for Covid-19, 10 days after his father died on April 10 due to the complications related to the virus.

Chopra began his career in 1997 as a dialogue writer for the TV show Reporter, starring Shekhar Suman, Mona Ambegaonkar, and the late Raj Kiran. He went on to write the script for a docu-drama series Haqeeqat hosted by Mahesh Bhatt.

In 2004, Chopra forayed as a dialogue writer in Hindi cinema with Murder, which was directed by Anurag Basu. He wrote dialogues for films like Rog, which was written by Mahesh Bhatt, and Dobara directed by Shashi Ranjan.

He directed the Malayalam film Vasudha.

His last project as writer-director was the 2019 documentary Immortals of Kargil.

According to the Union health ministry data, on Saturday India recorded 3,26,098 Covid-19 cases that took the tally to 2,43,72,907, while 3,890 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 2,66,207. The second wave of the virus in the country saw the death of several Hindi film industry actors like Satish Kaul, Abhilasha Patil, film editor Ajay Sharma, veteran music composer Shravan Rathod.
