Thittam Irandu, the upcoming Tamil film starring Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead role, is set to skip theatrical release and premiere directly on the OTT platform SonyLIV, a source close to the production unit confirmed to Silverscreen India, on the condition of anonymity, on Tuesday.
“While the exact date of the release is not yet confirmed, the film should be out by the end of July or sometime in August,” added the source.
The streaming platform recently announced plans to expand its Tamil catalogue.
Thittam Irandu is written and directed by filmmaker-actor Vignesh Karthick, who shot to fame with the short film, Yours Shamefully 2. It marks his second feature film directorial, after the 2018 fantasy comedy Yenda Thalaiyila Yenna Vekkala.
The source revealed that scripting for the film commenced in September 2018 and Aishwarya Rajesh and Vignesh met shortly after the release of Yours Shamefully 2 on YouTube in February 2019. Vignesh pitched the story to Aishwarya, after which the actor came on board.
Thittam Irandu is backed by producers Vinod Kumar and Dinesh under the banners Mini Studio and Sixer Entertainment, respectively.
The first look poster of the film was released in May 2020. Apart from Aishwarya, the cast includes actors Jeeva Ravi, Pavel Navageethan, Gokul Anand, and Ananya Ramaprasad in prominent roles.

“It is a mystery thriller drama that revolves around an investigation. But the makers have tried to give an emotional treatment to it. Aishwarya plays the cop who probes the case,” said the source, adding that the film was shot for eight days in early 2020 before production was halted by the Covid-19 pandemic. It was later resumed in September and wrapped up in January.
The film was completely shot in Chennai.
The source also added that the film’s digital intermediate process is currently underway and is expected to be completed shortly. This finishing process involves digitising the motion film along with colour manipulation.
