American actor Michael B Jordan is working on a project that focuses on a Black Superman. According to a report by Collider, Jordan along with his production company Outlier Society will be developing it as a limited series for HBO Max.
While it is still unclear if the Black Panther actor will be starring in the series, a writer has been hired to work on it. However, rather than developing a series that re-imagines Superman as a black man, the story will be based on DC Comics’ Val-Zod, an alternate version of Superman. He is the second person to take on the mantle of the popular superhero. Val-Zod is the Kryptonian superhero from Earth 2. After being orphaned, he is taken in by the character Terry Sloan who offers to protect him.
Jordan’s upcoming limited series is not the only project about a Black Superman that is currently being developed. Director JJ Abrams is producing a film under his banner Bad Robot for Warner Bros. It is expected to revolve around Kal-El/Clark Kent’s version of Superman. Ta-Nehisi Coates is writing the script and the film is expected to be directed by a Black director.

Initially, speculations suggested that Michael B Jordan will be starring in this project but he denied the reports. He said, “I’m flattered that people have me in that conversation. It’s definitely a compliment, but I’m just watching on this one.”
Michael B Jordan is currently working on Creed III, which marks his directorial debut. He is also working on developing a movie on the popular animated series Static Shock for Warner Bros. Meanwhile, his production company’s upcoming projects include Journal of Jordan, which will be directed by Denzel Washington. The film also stars Jordan in the lead.
Jordan was last seen in Without Remorse, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on April 30.
