Mrunal Thakur, the Hindi and Marathi actor, has joined the upcoming Hindi remake of the 2019 Tamil film Thadam, which is also set to star Aditya Roy Kapur in the lead.
Thakur will be playing the role of a cop, who faces off against the protagonist played by Kapur.
The yet-to-be-titled Hindi remake is directed by debutant Vardhan Ketkar and produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios.
Thakur took to Twitter on Monday to share the news. She wrote: “It’s time for a face-off! Aditya Roy Kapur, are you ready? Super excited to work in the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit, Thadam, to be directed by Vardhan Ketkar.“
Written and directed by Magizh Thirumeni, Thadam is an action and investigative thriller based on true events, which starred Arun Vijay in a double role. The film’s title translates to ‘imprint’ and the story revolves around an investigator trying to make sense of the imprint left behind by the criminal in a case involving lookalike suspects.
Thadam, which has an IMDb rating of 8.2/10, was a critical and commercial success.
The film featured three female actors in the lead – Tanya Hope as Arun Vijay’s love interest, Smruthi Venkat as his lookalike’s one-sided lover, and Vidya Pradeep as a sub-inspector.
Since it has been announced that Thakur is playing a cop in the Hindi remake, she will likely be reprising Vidya Pradeep’s role.
Talking about joining the team, Thakur shared in a press statement, “When I heard the story of the film, I instantly knew that I needed to be a part of this film. My character is very intriguing and playing a cop has been on my checklist. This will be a very distinct role from all the characters I have played till now and I am looking forward to audiences watching this one.”

While praising the actor’s choice of roles and performances throughout her career, Kumar said, “When Murad bhai and I were discussing the cop’s character, we instantly thought of Mrunal. We thought that she would be perfect for this character and we are glad she is equally excited to be a part of this.”
“We wanted someone who has a soft personality but could put on a strong face when needed. When we approached Mrunal with this character, she was excited and quickly came on board,” Khetani added.
While the film was initially slated to go on floors in November 2020 with Siddharth Malhotra in the lead, it did not take off at the time due to unknown reasons. Later, this July, T-series announced that Kapur would reprise Arun Vijay’s dual role in the remake.
