Tadap, starring actor Suniel Shetty’s son Ahan Shetty and Tara Sutaria, has made around Rs 4 crore (nett) at the box office on its first day.
Despite the leads being newcomers and the film getting fewer screens, Tadap has also managed to get close to the opening of Salman Khan-starrer Antim: The Final Truth and beat that of John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate 2, both of which released last week.
According to the BOI report, Tadap got only one screen on average in multiplexes while the bigger films were allotted two. Shetty’s debut film is reportedly seeing a lot of college-going crowds and throughout Friday, Tadap saw good footfall for the morning as well as night and evening shows. The report also states that the weekend is likely to bring in even more crowds.
Antim: The Final Truth, on the other hand, has seen a drop in collections on day eight, settling in around the Rs 1.25-1.50 crore range (nett). This is attributed to Tadap doing well now in all the cities where Antim saw good collections. In the Telugu states too, due to the release of Nandamuri Balakrishna-starrer Akhanda, Antim’s footfall has reduced drastically. Tadap, however, performed on par with the Telugu film on Friday, as per Anupam Reddy, executive committee member of the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce and owner of Sudha Multiplex in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar’s Sooryvanshi is still going strong at the box office. Despite competition from other Hindi films, it has managed to run for five Fridays successfully. According to another BOI report, the film collected approximately Rs 35 lakh (nett) on its fifth Friday and its overall collection has now come up to Rs 191.50 crores (nett). It also has chances of picking up the numbers over the weekend once again.
With several other Hindi films lined up for December, it remains to be seen how films like Tadap and Antim: The Final Truth perform on their second, third weeks, and so on.
Tadap is directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. It is the Hindi remake of the 2018 Telugu movie RX 100.
