The title poster of the film was released by actor Vijay Sethupathi on social media on Saturday.

Produced by KK Ramesh, the upcoming film is directed by journalist-turned-filmmaker Raa Paraman.

Speaking to Silverscreen India, Paraman says, “Public is a political film about the politics surrounding party cadres. It is set in the contemporary world and is based on the current political scenario. Be it a state or a national party, cadres are treated in a similar way, but they are also very important to the party. The film revolves around these aspects.”

Paraman, who has also written the script, has drawn from his own observations as a journalist on the political beat. “I was a journalist with the Tamil media for 12 years, and while covering political issues, I was able to understand both the aspects of a party: from the cadre’s  and the leaders’ perspectives. Since Dravidian ideology is a core part of Tamil politics, its influence will be there in the film,” he adds.

Aside from Samuthirakani, Kaali Venkat and Riythvika, theatre artist Mu Ramaswamy of KD fame is also a member of the cast.

Public went on floors in 2016. However, the film suffered a long delay before finally being wrapped up about six months ago. It has been shot by cinematographers Rajesh Yadav and Vetri.

The film’s technical crew notably consists of two National Film Award winners: music director D Imman, who has composed four songs, and editor KL Praveen. Paraman notes that the team has consciously introduced lag during the edit in order to approximate reality better.

Public is currently in the post-production stages and the director says the makers have not yet decided on the release, given the current Covid-19 situation.
