Maamannan is the title of director Mari Selvaraj’s third film, which stars actor-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin in the lead, the makers announced on Friday, while revealing the title poster on social media.
Further, as reported by Silverscreen India earlier, Maamannan also features an ensemble star cast, including ace comedian Vadivelu, who returns to the screen after a long hiatus. Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead, marking her first collaboration with Udhayanidhi. The film also stars Fahadh Faasil in a prominent role.
It is to be noted that the film marks Mari Selvaraj’s first collaboration with all four actors. The filmmaker’s previous two films, Pariyerum Perumal and Karnan, have won critical acclaim and appreciation for showcasing the caste oppression prevalent in society.
Maamannan is produced by Udhayanidhi’s home banner, Red Giant Movies. The film is co-produced by Shenbaga Moorthy and Arjun Durai. Its technical crew includes composer AR Rahman, while Theni Eswar, who worked on Karnan, returns as cinematographer for the upcoming film. RK Selva, who edited both of Mari Selvaraj’s previous films, is also part of the team.
Meanwhile, the actors all have various other projects in different stages of production.
Udhayanidhi, who is currently serving as the MLA of Chennai’s Chepauk-Triplicane constituency, will next be seen in Nenjukku Needhi, the Tamil remake of the Hindi film Article 15, which is helmed by Arunraja Kamaraj.
Keerthy has the Malayalam film Vaashi with Tovino Thomas and the Tamil film Saani Kaayidham, which also stars filmmaker Selvaraghavan and is expected to premiere soon on Amazon Prime Video.
