To make way for small budget films and to stream-line the process of releasing films, the Producers’ Council has decided to allow only four Tamil movies to release every week from January 2015. Speaking at a press meet, RK Selvamani, secretary of Directors’ Union said, “Three straight Tamil films and one dubbed film will release every week from January. As producers suffer from unavailability of theatres, we realised the need to organise the number of releases.” He added that sometimes, there are more than five or six releases on Friday and many of those films disappear without leaving a trace.
