Summer 2015 is proving to be quite the goldmine for Tamil filmmakers. A refreshing change from the ten films a week trend, only one movie is hitting theatres this week – The Vijay Antony starrer India Pakistan, which is the music composer-turned-actor’s maiden attempt at out and out comedy. The film will also mark the Tamil debut of actress Sushma Raj, whose striking resemblance to Anushka has already made much headlines.
Vijay Antony has relinquished music composing duties to newbie Deena Devarajan, and has concentrated only on the acting part. “Even before Salim became a hit, I’ve wanted to stay away from music composing for a bit. As acting is new to me, I have to set aside some time for it and make sure that I learn the craft well. I can’t do this if I commit myself to both, acting and making music. So this is a conscious decision.” He also said that he had full faith in the abilities of Deena. “I’ve been a part of the composing process and so I know how talented he is. He has done a great job on the songs and they’ve been picturised quite well too.”
Director N Anand tells us that the film has a peppy, energetic love track at its core. “The leads of the film are always at odds with each other. Though they’re in love, they have a funny way of showing it. More often than not, they’re at war with each other and hence the title.”
Sushma Raj, a fashion design graduate, makes her Tamil debut with this film and claims that the film has an ‘interesting storyline’. “I was approached for this role while I was working on my Telugu film. I was floored once I read the script. Every couple I’ve known fight and make up immediately. But in the case of this film, their fights are legendary and as volatile as India-Pakistan clashes. I loved that it wasn’t the soft and sweet romance we’re used to seeing these days. It has a lot of meat.”
Produced by Vijay Antony under his home banner, the film will face stiff competition from the likes of Bollywood film Amitabh-Deepika starrer Piku this weekend. Kaanchana 2, OK Kanmani, Uttama Villain are all running to packed houses still and thus, it will be interesting to see if Vijay Antony’s rom-com can hold its own against this lot.
